Welcome to
the Alandale Advisor for June 2007. Let me
begin by thanking our strategic partner, Ron
Novotny and Warren Higgins of the law firm of
Hill, Farrer and Burrill, LLP as our guest
speakers at our May 15th seminar. All who
attended commented on their professional
presentation and interesting topics of
"Current Wage and Hour Laws" and
"The Use of Arbitration in Employment
Disputes". Keep your eyes open for our
next seminar in July.
As always, we try to
bring to you topics each month that will be
timely to your business or aware of certain
business risks we encounter each day.
Our first article this
month deals with an interesting age
discrimination lawsuit filed by an applicant
on the NBC show, The Apprentice. Failure to
hire (allegedly) based on age is cause for
action and business owners must be prepared.
If you are not currently buying Employment
Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI), now is
the time to seek this important protection.
Second, get ready
because the savings workers compensation may
not last forever. We are starting to see new
ballot initiatives to reverse some of the
advances made in the past 4 years. You will
note that rates in California are at levels we
have not seen in 10 years. Time to invest in
safety and risk management while you can be
proactive for the future.
We all wish we had
more time, take a second to read some of our
time saving/efficiency ideas. Finally, our
Group Benefits department makes some
suggestions on what is happening in employee
benefits. If you haven't already spoken with
Steve Lambert in our benefits department,
maybe now is a good time.
Take a moment to read
through the quick articles. We hope you enjoy
our monthly letters and look forward to seeing
you soon.
Regards,

Paul Traughber
